Manufacturing Shop Customizes Overhead Cranes

When bridge cranes and jib cranes are used together, they can make full use of their respective advantages and form complementary effects, thereby improving work efficiency and safety. The case shared by Dongqi Crane today is a manufacturing factory in the UK customizing overhead cranes and jib cranes for a newly built workshop. We hope that through the interpretation of cases, we can help customers understand the advantages and disadvantages of different types of cranes more clearly. If you have needs for these cranes, you can tell us your working conditions and needs, and we will achieve win-win results through effective communication.

In order to better serve customers, the manufacturing site has undergone a multi-million pound factory expansion. As part of the expansion, the manufacturing plant customized a fleet of new cranes from a local crane supplier.

The cranes will speed up the manufacturing and assembly of heavy mineral grading equipment. The combination of overhead crane and jib crane provides a flexible system for efficient and reliable lifting, handling and production processes that can easily accommodate future expansion.

As part of the project, two new workshops were added to the factory to manufacture heavy-duty products.

Within each bay are three 20 tonne overhead cranes operating on full length freestanding 60m gantry.

The cranes will be used to unload vehicles and advance products through various stages of production. Having enough cranes in the production area ensures optimal productivity levels because a highly skilled workforce does not have to wait for cranes to become available.

The crane adopts a double-girder box girder design and is equipped with an infrared anti-collision system to operate safely on the same track.

For heavier lifts up to 40 tonnes, they can be used in tandem and distribute the weight via spreader beams.

The new bay is also equipped with 10 one-tonne jib cranes, seven in one bay and three in an adjacent bay. Each supports a workstation operated by two welders or platers. The jib crane is attached to the gantry legs with removable fittings, allowing the jib to be easily repositioned as production needs change.

Street installed two 50-tonne double-girder cranes and a 25-tonne double-girder crane in the original building where the sizing machines were assembled. One of the larger units is equipped with a 15-tonne auxiliary hoist, providing greater flexibility in material handling.

The 20 ton bridge crane is equipped with an electric hoist. This is an advanced specification hoist designed for reliability and ease of maintenance, providing true vertical lifting and placement.

The 50 ton crane is equipped with a custom hoist. These heavy-duty hoists also offer vertical lifting capabilities to prevent lateral product movement and ensure greater safety. One-ton jib cranes all use the company’s chain hoists.

How to view the role of bridge cranes and jib cranes in manufacturing factories

As the primary material handling equipment in factories, bridge cranes play a key role in the manufacturing and assembly process. They can efficiently lift materials above workshops, warehouses and stockyards without being hindered by equipment on the ground. In the manufacture of heavy-duty mineral grading equipment, overhead cranes enable the rapid unloading of vehicles and advance products through all stages of production, ensuring a smooth production process. The two new workshops added after the factory expansion are equipped with overhead cranes in each bay, further improving production efficiency and productivity levels. These cranes adopt a double-girder box girder design, which is sturdy and durable, and are equipped with an infrared anti-collision system to ensure safe operation on the same track. For particularly heavy lifts, bridge cranes can be used in tandem and distribute the weight via spreader beams to meet the handling needs of different weight classes.

Jib cranes play an indispensable role in manufacturing factories because of their flexibility and convenience. They have rotatable arms and can be rotated 360 degrees to easily adapt to different working needs. In the newly expanded factory, jib cranes are widely used at various workstations to support the operations of welders or electroplaters. They are attached to the gantry legs with removable fittings, allowing the jib to be easily repositioned as production needs change. The use of jib cranes not only improves work efficiency, but also reduces the waste of manpower and time.

To sum up, bridge cranes and jib cranes each play different roles in manufacturing plants. Bridge cranes are mainly responsible for efficient and large-volume material handling to ensure the smooth progress of the production process; while jib cranes provide support for each workstation with their flexibility and convenience, improving production efficiency and operating safety. The combined use of the two provides manufacturing factories with a more comprehensive and efficient material handling solution.
